Conceptual Direction
We needed to create a design that would look at home beside a modern set of high end headphones and would also echo the iconic THX logo that has appeared on the silver screen for decades. We aimed to create a design that would stow-away nicely, and keep any wires neat and tangle-free. The dongle has embedded magnets in each end, allowing the tips to snap together, providing a handy cable tie for your headphones.
Mechanical Design
We worked hand in hand with the in-house electronics team at THX to fine tune the PCB layout and shrink the form factor as much as possible. Mechanical design solutions were discussed with the manufacturer, and refined through rounds of prototypes, to create a reliable product assembly.
Refining the Details
Each housing is machined from a single block of aluminum, giving the product an exceptional build quality, and excellent heat-sinking properties. A bright-dip anodizing process is used to achieve a perfect high-gloss finish, without painting. The face of the logo and chamfer details are machined off with a diamond polishing bit to reveal the raw aluminum.
