Turntable Task Light
UberLight™ Frame is designed to complement hi-fi turntable systems. While it is beautifully designed, it’s aim is to “fit in” and highlight the star of the show, the turntable. Mounting options, swivel feature, and lighting adjustments allow the user to dial in perfect lighting effect. In addition, UberLight™ Frame has a rechargeable remote that allows the user to adjust the light from the listening position, and even inspect dusty records.
Conceptual Direction
Building on UberLight™ Flex, we were asked to approach lighting around turntables from a fresh perspective. The market for turntables is flooded with lighting solutions that do a good job but weren’t specifically designed with the audiophile in mind. Our concept exploration focused on simple geometric lines, and planar surfaces, that reduce the visual impact of the light and allow the turntable to be the centre of attention. The idea of “framing” the turntable became an interesting totem for conceptual development.
Design Definition
We developed UberLight™ Frame through early stage mechanical design including functional prototypes of key functional elements such as the clamp. Further, we defined a full bill-of-materials, colours, materials, and finish specifications. In support of a strong OEM partner, we continued with development and usability refinements as UberLight™ Frame approached mass manufacture.
User Interface Design
We designed a delightful touch sensitive user interface that allows the user to tap and swipe for several key light features. The gestures, aim to bridge the gap between analog experiences, where turntables came from, and our digitally dominated world today.
Striking a balance between minimalism and high functionality can be difficult. With UberLight™ Frame we wanted to provide maximum value by including a variety of functional details in a simple, uncomplicated form. On first glance, it’s an “L” shaped light but on further exploration, it rotates, pivots, adjusts, and adapts to provide what you need in a turntable light. UberLight™ Frame “fits in” and “stands out”.
